I Finally Did It...

...I started a YouTube channel! *dances wildly*

This has been a dream of mine since my early teens, before YouTube became a big 'thing' and way before you could make a career out of it. I loved watching beauty gurus the most and wanted to make my own videos so badly. This dream stayed with me over the next six years but I was too self-conscious and before now, I definitely would've felt far too embarrassed to start. Earlier this year I decided that I'd start a blog and if I still felt the same way towards the end of 2014, I'd bite the bullet and create my own YouTube channel.

And that's exactly what I've done! The longing I had to start YouTube hadn't gone away and it's one of those things where if I didn't try it just once, I would always regret it. So, over the past few months I've been gathering all of the equipment I need to create a decent setup and last Friday, I sat down and filmed my first video. It went live on Saturday and since then I've been on cloud nine as I really didn't expect the lovely reaction that I got!

I won't waffle on as I explained everything in the video, but just to give you the basics - I've started a channel after years of wanting to, I'll be talking about everything that I talk about on my blog but mainly beauty, health, fashion and lifestyle, I'm aiming to post every Friday but may not always be well enough to film due to my chronic illness and I love my cat a lot.

If you'd like to see my first ever video in all its YouTube newbie glory...

Dear everyone who has watched, subscribed, commented and sent me messages of congratulations via text, email, Instagram and Twitter - thank you. I'm so unbelievably grateful. I even got a bouquet of flowers sent to my door from Sian, Hayley, Ali, Charlotte and Hannah with a card saying that they're proud of me. ALL THE FEELS.

I'm still nervous and I definitely haven't found my feet yet, but I've finally done it. Anyone who has ever thrown caution to the wind and gone for something that they've wanted for years will know this feeling - it's empowering and I feel incredibly excited about the future. Even if it turns out that YouTube isn't for me, at least I gave it my best try. I honestly can't express how happy I am that it's being received so well by you all. There are no words.

What's your dream? I want to hear about it!

Meg

  5. That was mine before I got my job working from home, and to go back to university and finish my degree! Who knows though - it can be so hard when the future is uncertain and you aren't sure what you'll be well enough to do. It makes life decisions to much harder as you sometimes feel you can't commit to anything! My fingers are crossed for you :) x

  19. Thanks Lauren, you're a gem! I did the same with blogging, I started a beauty blog under the same name of Meg Says when I was fourteen so if I hadn't deleted it I would've now been blogging for SEVEN YEARS - why oh why did we stop? Things could've been so different! Never mind though hey, we can't turn back time, at least we're giving things another go now. Ooh yay, I'd love it if you started YouTube too :) x

  22. Thanks so much Josie, this means the world! :) I want to get another video up SO much but I'm just too poorly at the moment, it's frustrating but I've just got to put my patient pants on and ride it out. I'd definitely subscribe if you did, yay! Haha I know the feeling, we had company over when I filmed my first video but I had to do it then as it was the first time I'd felt well enough in like a month and the lighting was good - I couldn't let the opportunity go by so I filmed and felt so self-conscious that everyone could hear me downstairs, thinking "why is Meg talking to herself?" x

  23. Thank you, that's sweet of you to say :) hope you enjoy the next one, I tried to film it for last Friday but I wasn't well enough unfortunately. Hopefully I'll be able to re-film it soon when I'm feeling better :) x

  24. Ah well done! I'd be way too scared to make a youtube channel, my voice on camera is not one to be putting on the internet! I'm not really 100% sure of my dream if I'm honest, I guess I'll just keep doing loads of things until I find out!

  25. Thanks so much, India! Haha, I was scared about that too - luckily I didn't have to edit my first video too much but I can imagine on more complicated videos like tutorials you'd get so annoyed of listening to your own voice! Me neither, this isn't my lifelong dream but it is a big one for me :) I'll keep going too, good luck my love! x
